NFL Weekend Recap: Week 8 Stuck
Posted on October 30, 2012 at 07:07 PM.

An interesting week around the NFL where we almost saw the upset of the year with the Jaguars and the Packers, and the worst game of the year with Cleveland and San Diego. Meanwhile, the Panthers are still the Panthers and the Falcons...

1) The Falcons Stay Undefeated

Well, this probably needs to remain the top story unless one of three things happen. A) RGIII has another one of those runs. B) The Jaguars knock off a top team. C) Tony Romo imploads in the first half, and then nearly brings the Cowboys back.

Okay, I’ll get to Option C in a minute. The Falcons easily took care of the Eagles, and in the process could have cost Michael Vick his job. The Falcons relied on Julio Jones to take care of the Eagles secondary, and he did not disappoint.

2) The Duality of Tony Romo

The man is a mystery, constantly. I just don’t know how to read him. Watching him in the first half with his three interceptions and then nearly leading his team to the win in the second half made it seem like I was taking crazy pills.

I honestly do not know how anyone could be a fan of his. He’s consistently inconsistent and seems like he and Jason Garrett are never on the same page. This team could lose every game the rest of the season or win every game the rest of the season and I wouldn’t be surprised.

3) Robert Griffin III is Human

And for that matter, so is Alfred Morris. The two Redskins rookies struggled for the first time on offense this season as the Redskins failed to muster much of anything against the Steelers. Robert Griffin III wasn’t helped out by his receivers as they dropped a league-high 11 passes in Pittsburgh.

Griffin couldn’t get anything going on the ground either to further frustrate the rookie in the harsh conditions. Meanwhile, Ben Roethlisberger got off to a hot start before eventually allowing Johnathan Dwyer to finish off the Redskins defense.

4) The NFL Hates London -- Or So I Think

The Commissioners Office has yet to send a single entertaining game over to Wembley Stadium to entice our British allies to spend their hard-earned money to really investing in the NFL. I can’t think of one entertaining game the NFL has sent over to London in recent memory.

The game this year was a one-sided blowout that saw Tom Brady and the Patriots destroy the St. Louis Rams. The Rams couldn’t get anything going offensively after the first drive. Meanwhile, Rob Gronkowski may never have been covered, and the Rams seemed to not want to tackle Stevan Ridley. That’s not a recipe for success, so it seems.

5) The Unbalanced Schedule Is Annoying

Why have nine games at 1 PM and two games at 4:15 PM? That benefits no one. Especially when neither of the late games seemed all that interesting until the final few minutes in Dallas. I’d love to see everyone vent about that. Surely I can’t be the only one that thought this.

I would have been bitter if I missed the end of that Colts-Titans game, but thankfully I have NFL RedZone, I imagine not everyone is so fortunate.

Have been at all 6 London games and this was by far the worse in terms of keeping us on the edge of our seats.

The first game in 2007 between the Dolphins and the Giants was a close game, but that was due to the weather (an absolute downpour), as the Giants were so much better.

The second game in 2008 was a much better game, and was a shootout between the Chargers and Saints, it was also the only one where the fans got behind the designated home team (Saints).

The Buccaneers games against the Pats (2009) and Bears (2011) were okay. The first one was a bit of a blowout, but last years game did have Freeman driving for the win.

The 49ers v Broncos in 2010 was a very dull first half, but got better.

Despite the quality of the games they have mostly sold out each year (last year's didn't but that was more a result of the lockout delaying a definitive decision on the game).

Next year will be the key, Steelers vs Vikings and 49ers vs Jaguars, will be interesting to see if both games sell out, pretty sure the Steelers/Vikings game will.
